Working vacation to San Diego’s Wild Animal Park, the San Diego Natural History Museum, and South Park neighborhood
San Diego
Entrance to the park
A variety of birds greet visitors near the entrance

The best view of the park has to be from this, but we didn’t find out.
This trainer gave an elephant behavior demonstration
Great views!
Lowland Gorilla
There’s a gorilla back there.
How do we measure up?

Entering the lorikeet feeding station
Lorikeet
Two of a kind
Feeding time
The lorikeets enjoy lapping up nectar from a cup.

The lions were sleepy when we stopped by their exhibit
Too bad the glare off the glass got in the way of this mouthful.
More lions.
This tram provides a 25-minute tour of the park.
The tram offered some great views of the landscape and animals..

Rhino
Ostrich

We attended a bird show where this turkey made an entrance.
We think this is a macaw.
Owl
Eagle

Keith made a new friend at
the petting zoo
The petting zoo featured a number of deer-like animals
We’re not sure why Keith
looks so scared here.

Keith got up close and personal with this guy.
Lori loved watching the giraffes.
She even got to feed one!

We found this restaurant on Google
The food was OK, but the setting was more memorable
This restaurant used to be a private residence...
...and had a great fountain.
The Big Kitchen is a local diner in South Park, San Diego.
Whoopi Goldberg once worked here.
The French toast was superb.
The diner also has an enclosed dining area out back.
Keith liked the decor in the washroom.
Under the Sun had some great garden and craft items.

Rebecca’s...
...is known for their great scones.
The candle shop was one of our favorite stops.
This photo might make it on the cover of our San Diego magazine.
They also had some fun soaps.
Keith perusing some books at the yarn shop.
Keith got a great angle on this photo.
Lots of colorful yarn.
Plum Pottery
Keith got a great shot of this fun-looking bowl.
You can buy pottery here...
...or you can sign up for classes and make your own.

Clothing boutique
The Daily Scoop...
...had a great banana split.
San Diego Natural
History Museum

We arrived just in time to tour the Dead Sea Scrolls...
...and the Fossil Mysteries exhibit
Photography wasn’t allowed for the Dead Sea Scrolls...
...so we had to settle on photos of these pre-historic critters.
