Why Disneyland is better than work

Filed under: A Day Away — Keith @ 10:23 am

Our friend Greta was kind enough to pass along some free Disneyland park-hopper tickets courtesy of her husband Chris, who works at the park. So yesterday Lori and I took a vacation day to check out the park’s Christmastime happenings, which include lots of lights and of course the special Halloween/Christmas makeover of the Haunted Castle as well as the nifty redecorated It’s a Small World attraction. Our goal was to beat the holiday rush by visiting on a Friday while the rest of the world was working.

Apparently we weren’t the first to dream up that idea. But all in all I think the crowds were manageable. I waited less than 15 minutes to ride the roller coaster at California Adventure (the one that loops through Mickey’s face) and I must say it was a surprisingly good ride for Disney. Lori isn’t into roller coasters, but I enjoyed myself thoroughly and then we went on our way to enjoy both parks the rest of the day and into the night. We tied a bow around our evening with a nice hot cup of cocoa on the way out. Yum!

Today is Saturday and we’re off to shoot photos in downtown Orange for Lori’s work. This should be fun. I understand there’s food involved, so I’m there!

Gobble gobble. And the turkey was gone…

Filed under: General — Keith @ 11:01 pm

Thanksgiving was a lovely day as usual. Great southern California weather, fantastic food. Thank goodness for parents who cook! We visited Lori’s parents in the morning where we enjoyed all the fixings including turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, German-style stuffing, jello, pie… what a delicious feast. As if that weren’t enough we headed out to Le Chateau Mason in Nuevo where my parents put on an equally fantastic meal. All in all a good day in my view.

And how do Lori and Keith follow up such a calorific day?

Why, shopping of course! For the first time we decided to wake up bright and early to take advantage of some early-morning Black Friday sales. Apparently this is a big deal as we weren’t the first in line. Alas, we did get in and got all the goodies we needed. But I think some others were not so lucky.

Anyway, yesterday we about finished the leftovers.

Fun at the Fair

Filed under: A Day Away — Keith @ 10:44 pm

Today we visited the 2007 incarnation of the OC Fair. What a madhouse! Whatever happened to Sunday being a day of rest? It was a great day for fun though… mid-80s, sunny, blue skies. As usual, we ate way too much: fajitas, corn on the cob, ice cream, soda. Our dietitian would be proud — if we cared enough to have one.

On the bright side we watched the All Alaskan Pig Races, which are a blast and highly recommended for kids of all ages. I think the one with the orange jumpsuit won the contest, but they all seem adorable.

Keith is a fan of the barnyard animals, especially the cute little ones and any animal that allows itself to be petted. He got hands-on with cows, sheep and goats. We also watched some little cutiepie piglets feeding — they were only 10 days old, and they grow so fast!

Lori likes the Ferris Wheel; Keith is afraid of heights. So any pictures posted on this site that make him look excited to be dangling 200 feet up in the air are purely for posterity. At any rate we snapped some fun pics of the whole fair from a nifty perspective way above the crowd.

Haven’t been yet? You gotta get there soon — the OC Fair closes next weekend, on August 5.
